Megan Sperry

Children’s Group Class Vocal Instructor

Megan is a passionate music instructor who brings energy, creativity, and joy to her classes. Specializing in ages up to twelve, she builds an environment where children can safely explore their voices, grow as musicians, and develop life skills.

With current experience as a music teacher at a local elementary school, Megan works with children of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities, which informs her studio practice. She differentiates instruction to ensure that every child is challenged, supported, and included. Megan understands group dynamics and loves teaching in a group setting because it helps children learn to collaborate, listen, harmonize, and build social skills. Child development principles and the science of learning guide Megan’s curricula. Her classes present concepts through varied instructional methods, creating a lively, flexible environment where learning is accessible to all students. Under Megan’s guidance, children gain musical experience through singing, listening, visuals, simple instruments, and play. Megan prioritizes a whole-child approach and leverages the power of music as a joyful, engaging vehicle for teaching life skills such as self-awareness, confidence, perseverance, and critical thinking.

Megan’s experiences have taught her that a growth mindset is one of the most important paradigms a person can build. From a very young age, Megan tinkered on the piano and sang. She doesn’t remember a time when she couldn’t read notes on the treble clef! Throughout her growing-up years, she participated in band, theater, and choir, but in college, she lost confidence in her abilities and stepped away from performing. She pursued a degree in English education from Brigham Young University, traveled the world, and started a family. As an adult, Megan missed music and decided, “innate talent” or not, she was going to pursue it because it made her happy. She has studied piano and voice for many years now and is thrilled to have music back in her life. Singing with the Timpanogos Chorale (directed by Andrew Wheelwright) is her outlet for participating in choral music, and she added a music endorsement to her teaching licensure. Megan is still fascinated by language and relishes a good conversation about a book or a grammatical concept, but she has found her true calling in teaching music to children. She delights in creating a joyful, safe, and sometimes-silly setting where children can thrive. Her love of teaching led her to pursue a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She strives to instill a growth mindset in children from a young age, valuing progress over perfection, creating a safe space to take risks, and embracing mistakes as learning opportunities.

Four teenagers and a husband fill Megan’s heart and time when she’s at home. They all love music, too, though sometimes there are disagreements about genres. Megan’s evenings are spent giving rides to rehearsals and sports practices, attending band concerts and plays, and running from one activity to another. She gets fiercely competitive when playing Scrabble with her family, seldom misses her daily walk with her beloved little dog, Chip, and opens freshly organized closets to admire them before they revert to their usual disastrous state.
